A 35-year-old woman, Mrs Chinyere Onyechere, whose husband died while she was pregnant, has given birth to quadruplets.
The deceased, Mr John Onyechere, from Umuozo Eziukwu in Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State did not live to see his quadruplets.
The woman was delivered of the babies at Mother of Mercy Hospital Umuna Orlu and they were later moved to the Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) Umuna Orlu for intensive care.
When Christian Voice visited the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of IMSUTH, the babies, two boys and two girls, were said to be in good condition.
IMSUTH Public Relations Officer, Mrs Ifeoma Nwadike, conducted our reporter round.
The mother of the quadruplets said that she never expected such blessings from God, but thanked God that she had a normal delivery.
According to her, she had twins, a boy and a girl, in her second pregnancy and that the arrival of the new babies had increased the number of her children to 10.
The woman, who is a petty trader, said that since the death of her husband, her brother-in-law, Pastor B.C. Onyechere, had been helping her.
The widow appealed to the government and public spirited individuals and groups to come to her aid.
The widow whose joy appeared awry as, according to reports, she had been crying because it all happened” when my husband was no more, so now I don’t know how I can take care of the ten children as a widow”.
Also speaking, the Chief Nursing Officer incharge of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of IMSUTH, Mrs Chinyere Nnodim, maintained that the babies have been doing well since they were brought to the hospital, adding that the unit is making every effort to ensure that the quadruplets survived.
