As suspected by many Nigerians, the issue of gay marriage and homosexuality cropped up during President Buhari’s last visit to the United States and according to reports, was unequivocal in his rejection of the abomination.
The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, revealed through his twitter handle that “the issue of gay marriage came up last Tuesday”.
But, he said, Buhari response was point blank that “sodomy is against the law in Nigeria and abhorrent to our culture”.
According to Adesina, talks had to shift to other matters once the Nigerian leader declared his country’s uncompromising stand on same-sex marriage and that “the issue was not pushed”.
America and the West have used the issue to blackmail poor third world countries by threatening to stop aids to them if they oppose same-sex marriage.
Last year Uganda’s parliament was forced to stop a popular anti-same sex marriage bill when Western nations withheld various aids to Uganda.
Former President Jonathan accented to the anti-same-sex marriage bill into law on January, 13, 2014 months after it had been passed by the National Assembly and it was speculated that the long delay was due to pressure from the West for him not to sign it.
