Imo State Universal Basic Education Board (IMSUBEB) has an intense training of teachers in the state to fortify Imo children for future task in the Country.

This was disclosed by the chairman of the IMSUBEB, Mrs Gertrude Oduka during the flag off of the 2015 cluster training of teachers in Owerri recently.

Mrs Oduka who said the training was organized by IMSUBEB and Imo government also said that it is a 10- week programme which will contain 30 cluster centers to be situated in the LGAs. She added that each of the centers will contain 50 teachers which will amount to 1500 teachers at the end.

According to her, the purpose of the training was to fish out bad eggs and ensure that seminars and workshops are no longer a “jamboree for collection of allowance ” This is a painstaking exercise and every trainee must justify his pay, anyone who is not committed must be removed,” she said.

She further stated that three training institutions: Imo State University, Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education and ICAPS were certified for the training while ICAPS will be used for impact assessment. According to her, the assessment will come before, during and at the end of the programme.

She, however, said that they will ensure that every teacher undergoes the training as it will be rotated until it goes round, noting that another training is coming up soon as the current one was meant for 2014. She therefore advised the teachers to take the training very seriously.

She, therefore assured Imolites that the governor will rather add more colour to free education than to scrap it.
