Anglican Bishop of Isi-Mbano, Rt. Rev. Godson Ukanwa, PhD, JP has lamented that there are so many professors of theology all over the place capable of interpreting the Bible from cover to cover but cannot put into practice what they profess.
The bishop made the observation penultimate Sunday in his charge at the priestly and diaconate ordination held at St. Michael’s Church, Eziama in Isiala Mbano local government, Imo State.
He, therefore, counseled the newly-ordained to be practising Christians unlike the professors referred above in order to win souls for God.
Bishop Ukanwa equally urged the new priests to and deacons to forgive their flock if they err and as well pray to God to also forgive them their sins.
In his sermon, the Bishop of Ekiti Kwara, Rt. Rev. Andrew Shola Ajayi submitted that evangelism is an assignment for all Christians and not specifically for ordained priests alone recalling that Christ instructed all to go into the world and preach.
He urged priests to strive to be filled with priestly qualities such as being reputable, filled with the Holy Spirit and God’s wisdom.
The preacher assured them that they would always overcome all temptations and oppositions if they remained on God’s side.
To the congregation, Bishop Ajayi counseled them not to interfere with their priests’ transfers as they were God’s directives through their bishop.
Two deacons were ordained priests while seven ordinands were ordianeds deacons.
Bishop Ukanwa was assisted by Ven. Dr. C.C. Onyemerekam in celebrating the Holy Eucharist with Ordinand Anele Chigozie reading the Old Testament lesson while the gospel of St. Luke Chapter 27:38-end was read by Rev.Ugochukwu Abiakam.
The well-attended occasion was thrilled with moving renditions by St. Michael’s Church Choir, Eziama, St. John’s Choir, Agbaja, the Clergy Wives’ Choir and the Sharon Voice Choir.
