Irked by the chaotic nature of Owerri metropolis, a political activist in the state, has asked the Imo State government to build parking lots for vehicles plying the capital city.
Ogbuehi Valentine Amafili, the Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Imo State, who spoke to Christian Voice on the matter, said that the parking lots would bring environmental sanity to the town as well as control congestion and activities of touts.
He lent his weight behind the current demolition of illegal structures going on in the state capital, stressing that if it is allowed to continue, it could go out of control.
Ogbuehi Amafili condemned the incessant harassment of people by touts, suggesting the creation of parks and open spaces in strategic places in the metropolis to aid first-timers to the city.
Also, he said that signposts should be erected in places where parking of vehicles is restricted, adding that if parking lots are provided, they could serve as sources of revenue to the state government.
If this is done and followed up with adequate publicity the city of Owerri will be cynosure to people in the country, he said.
