Bishop’s wife preaches repentance at August meeting

The President of the Mother’s Union, Women’s Guide and Girl’s Guide and wife of the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Egbu, Mrs Ngozi Okorafor, has counseled Nigerians, especially Christians, to re-examine themselves and their activities to avoid the wrath of God. Mrs Okorafor urged them to be conscious of the danger and calamity that would befall them if they fail to refrain from their evil ways.

The Bishop’s wife who gave the advice in her address to the 2015 Diocesan women’s Home/Abroad meeting at the Cathedral Church of All Saints, Egbu in Owerri North local government , Imo State, noted with regret that the Nation has been enmeshed in a lot of social vices ranging from idolatry, oppression of the less privileged, injustice, kidnapping, armed robbery, covetousness among others. She posited that they have, by their behaviours, offended the Holy Spirit for which they needed to purge themselves .

God, she said, does not desire the death of a sinner, rather that they should repent and return to Him.

In a keynote address presented at this 3th Diocesan Women’s meeting the Archdeacon of Egbu, Ven Chide Amadi in his paper on the theme ”Seek Good and not evil that you may live” Amos5:14, averred that the society of women was the foundation of good manners and challenged them to create and maintain Godly environment while also being courageous enough to expose the moral evils in the society. Ven Amadi explained that the true basis of moral Christian living was imbedded in the standards of the words of God not only as guided by the Holy Spirit but has to be inward. He stressed that such would also influence their conduct if they sincerely desire to live by God’s receipts, especially if they appreciated the fact that they were responsible to God for their actions and inactions, citing Rom12:14 ‘every one of us shall give account of himself to God’.

The meeting which had in attendance the pioneer President of the Mother’s Union, Women’s Guild and Girl’s Guide, Mrs Ada Iheagwam who also joined the sitting President in taking the salute during the match past that preceded the meeting. High point of the meeting included the talk on Widowhood by Dame Nkechi Azubuike, award of honours and lighting of candle.
