The dastardly killing of a Catholic priest recently at Avu, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, has allegedly led to more discoveries by the police who smashed a kidnappers’ den near the scene where the priest’s body was recovered.
Police sources disclosed that when they stormed the suspected kidnappers’ domain, they discovered also that it was not Rev. Dennis Osuagwu only that lost his life within the area in the hands of the hoodlums.
Dangerous weapons such as gun and machetes were recovered at the scene while those found around were arrested.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Imo State command, ASP Andrew Enwerem, confirmed that serious investigations were going on to unravel the circumstances that led to the killing of the Catholic priest.
Fr Osuagwu, a native of Amato in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, was until his death, a senior lecturer at Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo.
The priest was, reportedly, a no-nonsense lecturer and a disciplinarian, who was strictly averse to prevailing cultism and other vices in higher institutions of learning.
Speculations were that some students who felt he was standing on their way had gone ahead to eliminate him.
