IMSU VC bags Ohaneze award

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Imo State Chapter, penultimate weekend honoured the acting Vice Chancellor, Imo State University, Prof. Adaobi Obasi with a distinguished award of “Oka Nmuta Ada Igbo Gburugburu”.

In an impressive ceremony witnessed by Ohaneze chieftains from the three senatorial zones of Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu at the university’s main campus, Owerri, the state chairman of the apex Igbo cultural organisation, Ambassador Azunna Akpaelu said that the award was in recognition of Prof. Obasi’s giant strides in education and culture in Igboland.

As the first commissioner for education under the free education programme of Imo State government, Amb. Akpaelu, said that Ohaneze Ndigbo, Imo State Chapter have come to appreciate a workaholic, a pathfinder and an academic amazon, who has meritoriously served Nigeria and Ndigbo in particular.

“We have come to say thank you for a job well done”.

He later decorated the VC with Igbo beads as a mark of “Honour”.

Responding, the acting VC thanked the Ohaneze Ndigbo for the honour done to her. She said she would not let the apex Igbo organization down, adding that the award would spur her to do more work.

Fielding questions from journalists after the event, Prof. Obasi said that she was highly honoured, adding that she did not know that she was being watched.

On her present tenure as acting VC Imo State University, she said she would carry everybody along, including members of the governing council, the senate, Academic Staff Union, students and the entire university community to make IMSU better than she met it.
