Make peace in your communities, women urged at August meeting

The former Imo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development and a member of Board of trustees of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon Lady Ann Dozie, has charged women to use this year’s August meeting to make peace in their communities and the state in general.

Hon Dozie who gave the charge at the Umuofor Women August meeting in Egbu, Owerri North LGA recently, also urged women to train their children in the fear of God, adding that when families are in peace, such peace to the community and eventually brings unity and progress to the society.

The former commissioners who was honoured as Mother of the Day, at the gathering, urged women to be home-builders and to shun blackmail, gossip and calumny which she said destroys a community.

In her address, the President-General of the association and the proprietor of Christ the King Nursery/Primary School Egbu, Mrs Iheme, enjoined every woman to learn to forgive and cherish one another in accordance with Mark 11:25-26, adding that it is forgiveness that brings lasting peace.

She, therefore, charged Umuofor women to ensure that the peace found among them abides in the entire Egbu community.

According to her, the meeting which was their third with the theme “Fear not for I am with thee”, was unique as they have been enlightened on different issues about health and home building during the summit.

She commend Umuofor women for their commitment and unity.

In her opening remarks, the chairperson of the occasion and former member representing Owerri Municipal Council in the Imo House of Assembly, Mrs Anthonia Ngoka, urged women to take to farming to have access to fresh food and vegetables for their families, against the much preserved food items which is called junk food, stressing that it has caused multiple sickness in our society.

She, however, promised to introduce different skills acquisition programmes to them come next year’s August meeting Mrs Ogechi Ogwoma, the general secretary of Egbu town Union Lagos Branch, who was overwhelmed by the love and unity found among the women, advised them to shun back-biting.

Highlight of the occasion was the launching of the hall project and beautiful seats. Also, the occasion has so many activities like Award giving to noble sons and daughters and friends of the community, dance competition, drama among others.
