Royal father backs community policing

The Traditional Ruler of Ihim Autonomous Community in Isiala-Mbano LGA of Imo State, HRH Eze Oliver Ohanweh, has thrown his weight in support of the community policing project of the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase.

Eze Ohanweh was speaking when the new Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Isiala Mbano, DSP Ebam Etta, called on him at the community government council secretariat during a familiarization four of the area.

The Royal father commended the police for performing a crucial role in guaranteeing security.

Eze Ohanweh, the Obi Gburugburu of Ihim, applauded Gov Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and President Muhammadu Buhari for their passion in ensuring the security of the nation and state.

He commended the IGP for sending an experience police officer to the area and urged the people of the community to cooperate with him.

He also called for adequate facilities for the police as well as enhanced pay and regular promotion, while remaining the DPO of the need to increase surveillance in flash points especially on Anara-Umuelemai road.

Earlier in his speech, DSP Etta thanked Eze Ohanweh and members of his community for their hospitality and support.

The Divisional Police Officer who was accompanied by Corporal Stella Alisigwe said that the essence of their visit to educate them on the frame work and benefits of community policing

While soliciting for their support and co-operation in terms of operational logistics, he expressed his commitment to work with members of the community so as to proactively salvage the area from security menace.

He pointed out that he is conversant with the geographical terrain of the area informing that as a young officer he has been assigned to do series of investigative work within the area.

After passionately appealed to the citizens of the division on the need to release information on any breach of security noting the essence of community policing is to bring police and their work to the door steps of people.

Among elders of the community who responded to the Divisional Police Officer declaring their unalloyed support and co-operation to ensure the area is crime free were Chief Boniface Nlemchi, Nze Ndulaka, Prince Louis Ohanweh, Chief Louis Ikere among others.

The also commended their traditional ruler for being patriotic, visionary, purposeful and futuristic in issues affecting their autonomous community praying that his labour of love will never be in vain.
