The Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has been lauded for approving the payment of all salary arrears of the state and local government workers up to September 2015. Ahiazu Mbaise LGA Taskforce Committee Chairman on Assessment and Rural Development, Chief Chidi Ibe made the commendation when a cross-section of the LG workers came to welcome him on assumption of duty at the Council Headquarters, Afor Oru.
He enjoined them to keep deaf ears on gossips that the governor was not workers friendly, pointing out that he was the first governor in the 36 states of Nigeria to pay more than the eighteen thousand naria approved workers minimum wage.
Chief Ibe, the immediate past State Information Commissioner said the governor has no plans to retrench workers, disrobe traditional rulers or merge communities as being insinuated in some quarters and advised them to support the government to better their welfare.
The LG Taskforce Chairman declared that Governor Okorocha is responsive and caring and would not sleep on his vision to lift Imo to an enviable height, explaining that the structural reform in the Community Government Council (CGC) is for development convenience and urged Imolites to disregard the rumour which he tagged “handiwork of mischief makers.”
