FG asked to respect federal character principle …In making appointments

Considering the alleged lopsidedness in recent political appointments and worried by alleged high-level of marginalization of South East in the appointments so far made by President Muhammadu Buhari, Barr. Uche Igbokwe has asked the Federal Government to revert to Federal Character constitutional provisions so as to enthrone equity and social justice among the federating units and avert complains of marginalization emanating from the appointments.
Igbokwe who is a social crusader and a legal luminary gave this advice in Owerri on Thursday while interacting with newsmen on the state of the nation.
“As a lawyer, I am quite aware that there are constitutional provisions concerning political appointments, so far, that have not been adhered to nor respected”, he said.
“I canvassed for strict adherence to the constitutional provision of Federal Character in which all the geo-political areas will have their representatives in government” he posited.
He also observed that “From the tables of appointment so far made, you don’t need a soothsayer to tell you that the people of South East are marginalized, the South West can complain that they have only gotten two prominent positions, while South South are saying they only have one, but, the South East cannot boast of one political appointment from the federal government”.
Granted that those who are supporting Mr. President are saying that appointments are not yet over, but you will discover that by the time the South East will have the grace of having political appointment probably through multiple appointments, you will equally find out that those areas that have gained bountifully from previous political appointments will equally benefit.
Until certain fundament issues are addressed, marginalization of the South East in the polity called Nigeria will continue to linger because South East in all ramifications are seriously disadvantage most especially since after the civil war”  he pointed out.
