Kaduna govt shuts down churches, schools

Two churches, two educational institutions and a hospital belonging to the Assemblies of God Church in Saminaka, Lere local government in Kaduna State, have been closed by the state government.
Spokesman for Kaduna State governor, Mr Samuel Aruwan, said the institutions had to be shut down owing to a deadly feud over the ownership of the institutions by two factions of the church.
The institutions include the Theological Seminary of Naorthern Nigeria (TSNN), Saminaka, Shalon Comprehensive College, Saminaka, and AGC Evangelist Hospital, Saminaka while the two feuding factions of the church are Assemblies of God Church, Nmbare, Saminaka and Assemblies of God Church, (Jerusalem) Saminaka.
The dispute between the two factions of the church arose over the ownership of farmlands, houses, and other assets which is alleged to have assumed an ethnic and religious dimensions with the students of the college and seminary split on factional line.
In a statement, the governor, Malam Nasiri EL Rufai said government took the action to check the leadership tussle in the church which, he said had the potential of exploding to other parts of the state and endangering the peace of the state.
