The Holy Trinity (Ang) Church, Amaigbo clinched the first position in the 2015 music competition of the Anglican Diocese of Orlu which ended recently at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter and John the Divine, Nkwerre.
In a ceremony to round off the competition, the Archbishop/ Bishop of Orlu, Most Rev. B. C. I. Okoro, PhD, advised Christians to make the hymn book their companion in addition to the Bible.
Archbishop Okoro said that hymns are capable of enriching our spiritual lives as well as informing us adequately.
He listed several categories of hymns such as those that praise God as well as thanksgiving and testimony hymns, among others.
According to the prelate, there are hymns for special occasions like Christmas, Easter, weddings and funerals.
The prelate also stated that hymns empower our prayer lives and strengthen our faith.
Speaking, the Dean of the Cathedral, Very Rev. Emmanuel Aguoru, commended the large turnout of the choristers and urged them to sustain the tempo.
The Music Director of Orlu Anglican Diocese, Ven. Ebenezar Ukweh, who amounced the result, also said that St. Paul’s (Ang) Church Achara-Umuaka, got the second position while St. Mary’s (Ang) Church, Okporo came third.
On the Grade 1 category, the choir of St Peter and John the Divine, Nkwerre came first, St. Andrew’s Umuowa second while St. Andrew’s Obinugwu took the last position.
