PDP lambasts Imo legislators

By Nick Chibunna

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Imo State Chapter, at the weekend, chided members of the Imo State House of Assembly, accusing them of  allowing themselves to be used by “a government that smacks of inconsistencies.”
Speaking to newsmen, the Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Kizito Onuoha, urged the house members to set up and perform their legislative and oversight functions.
The party spokesman also accused the governor of the State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha of undermining section 192 of the constitution by not appointing commissioners six months after being sworn-in for the second term.
He decried a situation where elected members of the legislature abandoned their tasking constitutional assignments to accept the job of task force, thereby trivialising their own offices.
He regretted that all efforts by PDP to make the law-makers realize their mistake had fallen on deaf ears as they are insistent on partaking in what he described as “Government Through Task Force” (GTTF).
He reminded members of Imo Assembly that they owe their allegiance to the people who voted them into office, and must give account of their stewardship at the end of their tenure, adding that the present situation in which the members had been reduced to a club of puppets leaves much to be desired.
Reminded that PDP legislators were also among members of Imo Assembly, the party’s  spokesman said that the voice of the six PDP legislators out of 27 law makers had always been swallowed by the overwhelming majority that take decisions in their Kangaroo courts.
On the rescue government of Owelle Rochas Okorocha. the party’s image maker accused governor Okorocha of toying with the destiny of Imo people.
He accused the governor of excessive borrowing which has now mortgaged the future of Imo State and plunged it into near perpetual bondage.
He said that since assumption of office in May 2011, Gov. Okorocha had embarked on several trips abroad where tax payers’ money had been squandered, only to come back and start shouting “factory factory, factor, “job, job, job, where as none is in existence. He described the governor as a skillful dramatist.
On the concessioning of some government parastatals, Hon. Onuoha simply summed up  the whole exercise as an “aberration”.
On the future of PDP in Nigeria political equation, Hon. Onuoha said that the party had learnt its lessons during the last general election, adding that it is undergoing serious alignment and realignment.
