Former Gov denies 100 bn debt

Former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi has reacted to the allegation by his successor and protégé, Governor Obiano that he left a massive debt of N100 billion for the state.
This starkly contradicted his claim to have left an unprecedented N75 billion in the state coffers to his successor which had won the former governor global accolade.
The allegation that Mr. Obi incurred a N100 billion debt coming two years after he left office left eyebrows raised over, Governor Obiano blowing the whistle rather belatedly.
But in his response from London where he was attending a conference of his class at Cambridge University, Mr. Obi described the whole issue as an “unnecessary controversy”.
He insisted that he left N75 billion to his successor in investment and cash which, he said were property documented and made public “at an event in Women Development Centre, Awka.
On the alleged N100 billion debt, he stated that “we never borrowed from any bank in Nigeria, issued any bond, or owed on any certificate for job executed when we left office.”
