Peace will soon return to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owerri where the staff have virtually brought activities to a halt for over six months following their call for their removal of the Chief Medical Director, Dr (Mrs) Angela Uwakwem.
This followed the intervention of the Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole and the House of Representatives’ Chairman, Committee on Health, Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor last week.
Christian Voice learnt from the chairman, Nigerian Union of Allied Health Practitioners’ (NHAHP), Comrade Clifford Ezeugwu, that he Minister and his team held a marathon meeting with critical stake-holders in the hospital and representatives of the various unions of the Concord Hotel Owerri which lasted for many hours.
According to the source, the Minister gave two options to the workers to choose between allowing the embattle Chief Medical Officer to complete her tenure of her going with the entire management staff.
It was understood that this threw the unions into a dilemma prompting them to summon can emergency congress in which it was unanimously resolved that both Dr (Mrs) Uwa…………… and the entire management staff have to go.
It was said that top management officials had felt bad about the decision initially but had to cave in for “peace to reign”, accepting to be either posted out or retained in FMC, Owerri without leadership positions.
Following the unions’ decision the Health Minister promised to post a new Chief Medical Officer to FMC soon.
