Fr. Mbaka leaves Enugu with 30 lorry loads of Adoration property

The recent transfer of popular but controversial Catholic priest, Father Ejike Mbaka to a new parish in Enugu Diocese has attracted mixed views from Nigerians.
He was transferred by the Catholic Bishop of Enugu, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga, from the Christ the King Parish, GRA, Enugu where he has served for 20 years within which he built the parish into one of the most vibrant and  resourceful in Enugu Diocese to the comparatively small Our Lady Parish, Emene at the outskirts of Eungu metropolis.
Besides, his posting as Assistant Parish Priest raised eyebrows leading to the conclusion in some quarters that the posting could be punitive.
In an emotional scene, thousands of Father Mbaka’s followers were said to have wept uncontrollably as they escorted him to his new station in a procession of  over 30 lorry loads of his belongings.
Over the years the priest has built a reputation as highly spiritual, endowed with the talents of healing, prophecy and music.
His Adoration Ministry grew in leaps and bounds with myriads, including businessmen, politicians and others, flocking to his weekly prayer sessions to seek spiritual relief from their afflictions and the actualization of their hopes and ambitions.
There were favorable testimonies that through Mbaka’s prayers, many received material and spiritual salvations.
It was therefore not surprising that prominent politicians were regular callers at Mbaka’s prayer sessions.
Among the high-profile visitor to Mbaka’s sessions were the wife of the former president, Patience Jonathan.
For a while, Father Mbaka hailed former President Jonathan as a good leader.
But the controversial priest sang a new tune at the nick of the last general election when he vehemently ran down former President Goodluck Jonathan as having brought bad luck to Nigeria with the level of unemployment, corruption and the intractable insurgency in the North-east of Nigeria.
He literally aligned with his opponent, the then general Muhammad Bahari, who he predicted (or is it prophesied?) would win the presidential election which indeed came to pass.
The irony in the young Catholic priest’s stand was that it diametrically went against the will of the Catholic leadership in Enugu State who openly canvassed for the former president.
Understandably, the then ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), regarded Father Mbaka as a bitter opponent being an ally of their political opponents of APC although he had always claimed that whatever he did was under divine instruction.
It is obvious that Mbaka has developed a strong friendship with president Buhari who he paid a well-publicized courtesy call at Aso Rock Abuja with the President’s wife, Aisha, visiting Mbaka on a tour of Enugu state.
His followers had geniue reasons to weep over the fate of Mbaka’s Adoration Ministry given that he has been posted under a new priest in his new station. It is not impossible that his new boss might be under an Episcopal directive to closely supervise his junior which could effectively and negatively affect Mbaka’s Adoration Ministry.
Meanwhile, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), are happy with the priest’s current predicament while the ruling APC sees it as victimization of a man of God and a friend.
