The Owerri Council of Knights of St Christopher has won the hosting right for the 2016 Delegates conference of the Joint Council of Knights (JCK), Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion scheduled to hold in November this year.
Disclosing this at an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of the council held last Wednesday at the council’s secretariat, Bishop’s Bourne Annex, Owerri, the President of the council, Sir Gab Oduah, noted that the approval for the hosting right is contained in a letter written and signed by the president general of the JCK, Sir Joe Ilonze.
According to the letter, he said, the theme of the conference is: “Where are the Knights: How should we, as Christ Bearers respond to the social, economic, and ideological challenges of our time (Ps 113)?”
Addressing the Exco members on the tempting and worrisome events that the council has experienced in recent times, the president admonished the knights and ladies not to be downcast, but to remain focused and look up to Jesus, the author and finisher of their faith, assuring that he would give them the courage and fortitude to bear the incessant loss of many members of the order, added to non-payment of pension to the majority of the members who are retirees.
Earlier in a brief homily before the meeting, one of the chaplains to the council, Rev Canon Echi Nwogu who drew his text from Psalm 143, reminded the knights and ladies, that they should not see themselves as being alone in their predicaments, but to keep trusting God from whom comfort, love and strength abound, and who, he said, would not forsake them in such perilous times.
