Fire Service Staff appeal for rescue

Staff of the Imo State Fire Service have appealed to the government to immediately pay attention to the department to avoid its immediate collapse.
A grim picture painted to Christian Voice shows that the service has a total of four fire trucks throughout the state apart from the obsolete ones that have outlived their usefulness.
Orlu and Okigwe Stations each has one fire truck while Owerri Fire Station  has two fire trucks courtesy of Niger Delta Development Corporation (NNDC) as one cannot respond to emergency owing to non-availability of diesel with the other facing battery/hydraulic problems.
On why the department could not handle such minor issues as fuelling the  trucks and rectifying the battery /hydraulic problem, they alleged that poor funding was responsible for the ugly situation that “government needs to take urgent steps to revitalize the department.
The staff also complained of very low morale owing to lack of incentives, acute shortage of staff, obsolete equipment and poor hazard allowance of N10.
