The Owerri Anglican Diocesan Music Council penultimate Saturday held a one-day music workshop for choirs in the diocese at St Mark’s (Ang) Church, Amakohia, Owerri.
Addressing the participants after an opening devotion, the chairman of the council, Ven. Ben. Nwaneri of Emmanuel Church, Avu, urged the participants to take the workshop seriously as the outcome would improve the standard of singing in their various churches.
He stressed the need for uniformity in singing in the Anglican churches as he assured of the ability of the resource persons to live up to expectations at the day’s business.
The chairman then explained the absence from the event of the Music Director, Rev. Emma Okorafor who he said had travelled outside the country adding that the council had nominated Dame Nkem Oparah as the Acting Director pending confirmation by the bishop.Ven. Ben Nwaneri equally told the choir masters that some notable choir masters have been co-opted into the council for more efficiency.
At the event that lasted for over four hours, participants were grouped into four sections, according to their grades, in preparation for the forth-coming annual Diocesan Singing Competition/Music Festival with Dame Nkem Oparah, Mr. Ezekiel Obiesie, Sir Emma Nnadi, Mr Gideon Ahanuonu, Mr Chris Obiji and Rev Gospel Iwuoha as instructors/resource persons.
In his closing remarks, the chairman expressed, gratitude to the Vicar of St Mark’s Church, Amakohia, Ven Chukwunma Oparah for playing the genial host to the occasion and commended the participants for their good conduct.
