Concerned citizens kick against sale of Owerri North LGA land

Gov. Anayo Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has been urged to stop moves to sell a parcel of land belonging to the Owerri North LGA to individuals.
A release in Owerri at the weekend signed by 20 prominent citizens who hail from the local government area noted that the land situated at Toronto/Egbu Road was meant to be the permanent site for the local government  headquarters.
The property, which was said to have been acquired in 1990, with due compensation paid to landowners, measures approximately 150,000 square metres and has been fenced.
The release accused the current Transition Committee Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. (Mrs) Ndidi Iheme, of spearheading the sales.  It warned that the people of the LGA insist that the land which was acquired for public use should not be appropriated for private use.
The people warned individuals on the risk of buying the land which sale they term as fraudulent, illegal, null and void.
