In a gory road mishap, a pregnant woman, Mmesoma, with her unborn twins, were crushed to death at Umuna, Orlu, Imo State, last week when a tanker trailer and a Hiace bus collided following which the lifeless bodies of the twins were forced out of their dead mother’s womb by the impact.
According to sources, it rained heavily on that fateful day and the victim was forced to ride back to her residence in Eziama Obire in Nkwerre Local Government Area on her ladies’ motorcycle under the rain when she met her grisly and untimely death.
Eyewitnesses told Christian Voice that the road mishap, which happened near the office of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Orlu Divisional Command, Umuna, was attributable to the impatience of the drivers of the two vehicles, knowing that the downpour was heavy.
Meanwhile, the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary of the Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH), Orlu where doctors battled in vain to save the lives of the twins who were said to be due for delivery a few days before the tragedy.
The drivers of the two vehicles and their vehicles, as well as the deceased’s mangled motorcycle are in the custody of Orlu Divisional Police Headquarters. Residents along the ever busy road called on the police to check the reckless driving of some commercial drivers, especially those who ply interstate.
