Moral decay traceable to families, says priest

As Fathers in the Anglican Communion worldwide celebrate fathers’ Day, the vicar of Trans-Egbu parish, Rev. Canon Edwin Ugwuanya has traced the decay in the society to families which ordinarily should be directed by fathers.
Preaching at a service to mark the Day at Jehovah Jireh Anglican church Egbu  in Owerri North LGA of Imo state, Canon Ugwuanya counseled fathers to live up to their billings as pillars of their various families.
He also challenged them to courageously serve God, pointing out that the fathers’ Day aims at reminding fathers of the God-given responsibility to inculcate in their children good moral values so that the youths would not engage in such vices as cultism, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape etc.
The Anglican cleric urged them not to be swayed by vain doctrines and paying allegiance to other gods.
Earlier in his sermon, Lay Reader, Chidi Nwogu identified the three fundamental responsibilities of the Christian fathers to include loving their wives, be considerate and respectful to them as the weaker partners, providing for the physical needs of their family including good education for the children as well as leading their children and household to the Lord, knowing that they would not depart from the ways of the Lord, even at old age.
While  acknowledging that the society was in an age driven by Information Communication Technology (ICT) , he encouraged them to always monitor what their children view on social media and to reprimand them when necessary.
Lay Reader Nwogu noted that the benefit accurable to a Christian father for the good upkeep and training of their children were  enormous including their children keeping their when they are no more adding that,  it takes only a responsible child to keep the father’s  will.
He averred  that this was the most appropriate time for fathers to prepare  their children against the unforeseen.   Highpoints of the service, conducted by Lay Reader Chike Mbisike, included  the celebration of Sir Suv.& Lady Emeka Nwosu as the Best Couple of the Year 2016, award of Worthy  Ambassadors of the Church to some members of the congregation, blessings by an aged father who represented the eldest father in the congregation and the melodious renditions by members of the Jehovah Jireh Anglican Church, Trans-Egbu Christian Fathers.
