We’ll resist intimidation, harassment – New Owerri NBA boss

The new chairman of the Owerri Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, (NBA), Barr. Lawrence Nwakaeti has vowed that his administration will stoutly resist intimidation and harassment of its members by the government and security agencies.
In his acceptance speech after the election of the new executive, the new NBA boss reeled out his administration’s programme that would ensure a robust relationship between lawyers and security agencies that would protect lawyers from intimidation.
“I shall stop lawyers being asked to deposit their phones while attending to the needs of their clients in custody at the various police formations,” he vowed.
He equally enjoined government and its agencies to stop acts of impunity and lawlessness in order to avoid clashing with lawyers as he assured that his leadership would work for the independence of the judiciary, continuing  legal education for lawyers as well as protect the interest of the embattled law officers in Imo State and to ensure that lawyers get good pay for preparing land documents.
Other officers elected into the new executive included; Mrs Franca Otuekere (Vice Chairman), Barr. Ishmael Nkwocha (secretary), Mr. J.S.C. Osuegbu (Financial Secretary) and Mr. Eke Onyeforo (Publicity Secretary).
Others were; Mazi Udegbulam (Legal Adviser), Kingsley Ehujuo (Assistant Secretary), K.A. Leweanya (Social Secretary) Chukwu Stella (Treasurer) and Kelechi Ogu (Welfare Secretary).
Some Senior Advocates of Nigeria witnessed the occasion including Dr Livy Uzoukwu, Jude Nnodum, Sir Chukwuma Ekomaru and Sir Ndukwe Nnawuchi.
Also in attendance were Prof. Nnamdi Obiareri, Chief Josiah Uwazuruonye, Barr. Emperor Iwuala and Ichie Fide Nwogu, among others.
Prominent politician Prince Marcellinus Nlemigbo, hosted the meeting.
