Amakohia demolitions in the interest of Imo people – Owelle

Amidst grumbles by some people over the demolition of structures in Amakohia/Akwakuma axis of Owerri Metropolis, Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, ironically, was received by an enthusiastic crowd last week when he toured the construction work on Orlu Road.
According to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, the Imo State chief executive pleaded for understanding by those whose property were affected by the on-going construction works on some of the major roads in Owerri and environs.
He said his intention was to build a “state of our collective dreams and aspirations under the “Imo My Pride” policy in the overall interest of the state and people.
He noted that the people were happy because they knew he meant well, assuring that by the end of his tenure, he would have built a new Imo State the people would be proud of.
The governor described Owerri as the fastest growing city in Nigeria at the moment with the roads being expanded and new markets being built outside the city centre in order to make it one of the cleanest cities.
He reiterated; “What we are doing now might hurt some people but they should all know we meant well” and need the understanding and cooperation of Imo people.
