Kidnap Saga: Victim accused his enemies – Police

In a dramatic twist of events, the Imo State police command has accused a kidnap victim of pointing at “his perceived enemies” in community politics as his kidnappers.
The police made the statement in reaction to allegations that they had released some notorious kidnap suspects in Ngor Okpala LGA of the state.
A release by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Andrew Enwerem referred to a newspaper publications captioned “community accuses police of releasing kidnap suspect’s and “Anxiety in Imo community over alleged release of kidnap suspects” and urged the public to see them as false and misleading.
Stating the police side of the story, the statement indicated that in the course of their investigation they apprehended some other suspects who, they claimed, confessed to the kidnapping of a community leader.
According to the statement, police released the six suspects on bail as the prime suspects had “vehemently exonerated” them.
The prime suspects were said to have been arrested in Lagos where the gang shared the  N1,950,000 ransom they collected among the five of them.
“During the course of investigation, it was discovered that the victims had previous communal/factional disagreement with the six suspects earlier arrested and it was obvious that they were mentioned to settle an old score”, the PPRO stated, pointing out that the arrest of the prime suspects was purely the efforts and intelligence gathered by police from sources other than the victim.
