Christian asked to shun hatred, love

By Chinasa Ogbonna

The Vicar of St. Peter’s (Ang) Church, Ikenegbu, Owerri, Rev. Barr. Festus Opara, PhD has identified hatred as evidence of a dead life which, among other vices, leads to the shedding of blood-hence, according to him, whenever one overcomes the spirit  of hatred, bitterness and rancor, one is qualified by the Bible as having passed from death to life Col. 3:5 and 1Jn. 3:14.
Speaking on the theme; “Proof of Christian commitment” at a recent service at the Church, Rev. Opara posited that both love and obedience to God have what he termed “horizontal influence on our relationship with God for which we demonstrate Christian virtues to others”.
In his sermon at the service on the same theme, bro Godlives Agugo attributed the ills in today’s society to lack of love which has caused a lot of wickedness in the society.
The preacher stressed that love is a great virtue every child of God must possess adding that it takes love for one to live Christ-like life and to be patriotic in the society irrespective of tribe, religion, office or level, blaming violence, cultism, robbery, kidnapping, cultism and other societal ills  to lack of love.
Bro Agugo also argued that God is the origin of love and that any one participating in wickedness is not a child of God against which he warned Christians.
