Owerri Non- Pastoral workers hold retreat

Aretreat/meeting was held for the non-pastoral workers in the Anglican Diocese of Owerri on Saturday, 10th September, 2016, at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Ikenegbu Owerri.
The non-pastoral workers comprise all yardmen, night watchmen, drivers, sextons, accounts clerks, gatemen, security men, teachers in the various schools in the diocese and all the workers in the diocesan parastatals, ministries, and departments.
In his inspiring and thought-provoking talk on the motto of the Chaplaincy, “A Workman Approved by God”,  Revd Barr. Festus Opara PhD, who is also the Vicar of Ikenegbu Parish, referred to various scriptural passages and stressed that a workman approved by God must not only be diligent in God’s work, but must also be eager to do the work.
He added that God’s workman must be an accountable steward whose best input must be good enough.
According to him, the non-pastoral workers are God’s co-labourers.
The Chaplain of the non-pastoral workers, Revd Chidi John C. Nlemchukwu, enjoined the workers to discharge their duties with honesty and diligence so as to get their rewards from God.  He equally urged them not to work as hired labourers, but as people working for their Father in heaven.
Revd Chidi Nlemchukwu thanked the Anglican Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Revd Cyril C. Okorocha PhD, for establishing the Non-Pastoral Staff Chaplaincy and for extending the free medical check-up to the non-pastoral staff.
Forty-nine non-pastoral workers attended the meeting while a member of the Chaplaincy Management Team, Bro Favour N. Ezekwe, acted as secretary.
