NERC opens Owerri Forum Nov. 9

The Owerri Forum Office of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) will be commissioned on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at No. 1 C.B. Anyanwu Road, Housing Area B, Owerri, Imo State.
According to the Acting Chairman/CEO of the commission, Chijioke Obi, “the commission has the mandate to ensure that Nigerians have safe, reliable, affordable and adequate supply of power as well as provide fair regulation for all stakeholders in accordance with the Electricity Power Sector Reform (ESPR) Act 2005.”
Furthermore, the forum office is being set up “as a redress mechanism of all unresolved electricity disputes between Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and electricity consumers within its coverage area”.
Members of the forum have been drawn from Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nigerian Association of Chambers of Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACIMA), Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and an NGO “who are expected to demonstrate principles of fairness, transparency and equity as they preside over cases brought before them”.
