Mama Owerri drills mothers on raising godly children

Members of the Women’s Guild of the Anglican Diocese of Owerri ended their 21st Biennial General Conference, recently, in Owerri where mothers were sufficiently drilled on raising godly children.
In her scholarly presentation at the four-day event held at St. Mark’s (Ang.) Church, Amakohia, the President of the Diocese’s Women’s Ministries (MU/WG & AGG) and wife of the Bishop, Dr (Mrs) Eunice .I. Okorocha, regretted that the prevailing economic crunch had prevented parents from spending quality time with their children.
“Some well -to- do parents prefer to buy expensive gadgets and gifts for their children than spend quality time with them. Others are busy making ends meet to the neglect of their children”, she said.
Dr (Mrs.) Okorocha, fondly called Mama Owerre, pointed out that godly parents have a big task of bringing up their children in the fear  and admonition of the Lord, through talking, teaching and training.
According to her, it is important to start early and correctly at family devotions and during discussions with the children. Mama Owerre emphasized the need to guide the children on what to avoid in the internet, observing, however, that the children are wiser than their parents in the use of Internet.
“Nevertheless , through bringing them up in the fear of God , they will know what is sinful and must be avoided”, she instructed, adding that parents ought also to acquire computer skills to help them understand what the children are doing.
She frowned at the growing addiction among children, and even adults, to pornography, occasioned by pop-ups , unsolicited e-mail and camouflaged indecent web sites that tempt the viewers. As the Internet had become the integral part of our lives , Mama Owerre commanded people to “be careful what you watch”.
She instructed parents to train both boys and girls to cook, observing  that many, especially those on the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) do not feed well because they lacked cooking skills from home.
Lacing her teaching with relevant Biblical quotations, the Bishop’s wife stressed the important of prayer and love in carrying out the tasks.
This year’s conference theme was “The Christian Family” Godly parents raising Godly Children (Talking , Teaching and Training the Next Generation for God).
