No hiding place for illegal immigrants – Immigration boss

Mrs. Nneka Uchendu, the Imo State Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has vowed to deal with illegal immigrants in her Command, insisting that they no longer have a hiding place.
Uchendu, who spoke recently to newsmen on the strategic plans of her department for 2017, said she would address the influx of citizens of Chad, Benin, Niger, Togo etc into most of the rural communities in the state in the name of artisanship and unskilled labourers.
The Comptroller expressed worry on the activities of these foreigners especially most of them that have no documentation.
According to her “the issue of illegal immigrants is not only a problem to Imo State but to ECOWAS countries and the  organization is not sleeping over it but here in Imo State, we have beefed up our intelligence strategies in all the 27 council areas of the state to ensure that all immigrants especially the illegal ones have no hiding place. We have equally extended our dragnets to all rural communities.
To demonstrate our seriousness, we have sensitized the traditional rulers and some principal stakeholders as volunteers and mutual partners in our fight against illegal immigrants “she disclosed.
She also expressed dissatisfaction at the high rate of demand for the nations’ international passport, especially by the youths and enjoined the federal government to address this.
