Imo Deputy Speaker seeks strict tax collection

The Imo State Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ugonna Ozurigbo, has called for the stiff adherence to tax payment by citizens of the country.
Speaking to newsmen at the Ehime Mbano LGA Headquarters where the charismatic legislator visited to acquaint himself with the level of development at the local government, Ozuruigbo explained that it was time for government to instigate more efficient means of collecting taxes.
He said that it has become necessary for a state like Imo which has the lowest internally generated revenue (IGR) in the country to improve upon its IGR in order to sustain the various projects of the present administration.
“You can’t imagine that a state like Imo with the numerous projects aimed at enhancing the lives of citizens has a very minute contribution from taxes. It is only the state workers that pay any form of tax,” he said.
Ozurigbo reiterated that to sustain projects, like the free education and various road projects, parents and Imo people in general should inculcate the habit of paying taxes.
The lawmaker argued that in this time of economic hardship citizens are expected to help the government help them by doing the right thing which is ensuring that their taxes are paid.
He urged the staff of the LGA to continue to do their best to support the Owelle Rochas Okorocha led government by making sure they play their own part in their various posts.
