No casualty in Owerri Bank robbery – Police

The police, at the weekend, debunked reports that innocent lives were lost at a robbery attempt on Zenith Bank, Wetheral Road, Owerri, on Wednesday.
According to a statement Signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Imo State, DSP Andrew Enwerem, only one of the robbery suspects was gunned down in a shootout between the robbers and police while three policemen sustained various degrees of injury.
Enwerem said that more of the four- man gang would have been fatally, injured had it not been the restraint of police from shooting innocent people.
The robbers had arrived the bank in an ash colour Toyota Camry car and had started shooting, but were confronted by policemen at the bank who later got reinforcement
The release stated that one AK47 rifle with 60 rounds of ammunition and three magazines were recovered from the hoodlums.
Enwerem urged newsmen to always verify information before going to press to avoid misleading the public.
