Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Obibi Parish in Awo-Omamma Archdeaconry will host 2017 Synod of the Diocese of Oru from Thursday, May 18 to Saturday 20, 2017.
HTC Obibi is the first parish to host the Synod outside the archdeaconry headquarters since the inception of Oru Diocese in 2008.
In his explanation, the Bishop, The Right Rev. Geoffrey Chukwunenye PhD said that the idea is to assist the individual parishes to develop the infrastructure in the church and to encourage many more parishioners to participate in the activities of the church as well as bring evangelism much closer to the nooks and crannies of the diocese.
The Local Organizing Committee with Sir Benson Nwabuzo as chairman has worked relentlessly to mobilize the parishioners and even non- Anglican faithful in the archdeaconry and beyond to appreciate the magnitude of the synod events. Sir Benson is optimistic for instance, that the security arrangement was tight even as he commended the various sub-committees for their effort in packaging the Synod.
The Archdeacon of Awo-Omama Archdeaconry, Venerable Humphrey Nnaoma, is optimistic that the Synod will be a huge success, pointing out that the Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Chukwunenye PhD will lead selected members of the planning committee to courtesy calls on traditional rulers whose communities are directly involved in the hosting of the synod delegates on Wednesday, May 17. The delegates are expected to arrive on Thursday, May 18 to participate in a Holy Communion opening service after completing their registration formalities.
According to Venerable Nnaoma, the Bishop’s charge will be launched on Friday May 19, 2017 while discussion on the charge and synod resolutions will take place on Saturday, May 20,with the thanksgiving service and the launching of the Diocesan development fund coming up on Sunday May 21 at St. Mary’s Church, Awo-Omamma.
On the last day of the facility visit to the HTC Obibi by the Synod Central Planning Committee, the chairman, Sir Bonny Nwoha, expressed satisfaction with the arrangement on ground and believed that the experiment will be a huge success.
He extolled the effort of the HTC Obibi, Parish Priest, the Rev’d Jonas Nnabuaku (Great Rabbi) to sensitize people in the area to attend the synod.
Sir Bonny Nwoha is, however, not happy with the poor condition of the Awo-Omamma Okwudor road and called on the state government to rehabilitate it urgently to enhance movement of delegates during the synod. With everything put in place the Archdeacon, Venerable Humphrey Nnaoma, the Local Organizing Committee and the Parishioners of HTC, Obibi welcome the Diocesan, The Rt. Rev. Geoffrey Chukwunenye PhD, his wife, Mrs. Joy Chukwunenye PhD, other Bishops and guest speakers, delegates, Knights and their Ladies to the 2017 Synod.
