Bishop calls for day of confession, prayer for Nigeria

The Anglican Bishop of Okigwe-South, Rt. Rev. David Onuoha, has called for a national day of confession and prayer, saying that the country has never experienced this magnitude of problems in its annals.
Bishop Onuoha, who is also the Episcopal Secretary of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), spoke at the thanksgiving service to round off the first session of the 10th Synod of the Diocese of Abuja held at St. Matthew’s Church Maitama, Abuja.
He said that the height of wickedness being witnessed by the high and low in the country can only be resolved if the leaders allowed Jesus Christ into the nation’s affairs.  He regretted that Nigeria’s corruption and economic problems are rooted in the insatiable love for money among the citizenry.
According to him, whatever Jesus enters into, no matter how grave the ill winds and storms, there is always peace and calm.
The prelate, however, expressed optimism that Nigeria would not disintegrate but progress and flourish on the condition that the citizens worked with Jesus.
He cited Mark 4:3 where the Disciples of Christ, during the storm, cried out of fear; anxiety and desperation to Him saying “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing”?
Christ, he said, is able to deliver us from every storm that we come across while following Him.
Also, the Rt. Rev. Jonah Kolo, Bishop Diocese of Bida, at the opening service of the Synod,  spoke on the theme of the Synod, “Teacher do you not care that we are perishing,”
Bishop Kolo said fear gripped the disciples because of the pandemonium caused by the storm, adding that the fear sent jitters to their spines, they ran to Jesus and they got instant relief.
The Bishop said anytime anybody comes to Jesus, he gets something positive in return. He cited so many instances in the Bible where people with affliction ran to Jesus and were saved; the paralytic, woman with the issue of blood, syrophoenician woman, Lazarus’s sisters, just to mention but a few.
