Imo boils … As anti- and pro-Okorocha groups plan big demonstration

Tension is mounting in Owerri, capital of Imo State, where demonstrations and counter demonstrations are said to have been planned by groups in support of and against the administration of the governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
But a youth group, the Imo Youth Platform, has vowed to prevent any acts that would jeopardize the peace of the state.
According to them, the pro-and anti- government protests have been planned for July 3.
The group had, in an open letter to the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Security (DSS), cautioned against the protest.
In a subsequent statement signed by its Director of Media, New Media and Strategy Austin Echefu, Wednesday, the youth platform said it has drawn the attention of the security agencies to the suspicion that a prominent governorship aspirant and a former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly are behind the anti-government protest.
It said that no responsible government or pro-active security agency is expected to allow politically motivated protest to cause mayhem in a peace state like Imo.
“Imo Youth Platform will continue to campaign against any “pro and anti-government protest” which is capable of causing chaos in the state. We will also not fail to call for the arrest of known trouble makers who are set out to cause breach of peace in pursuit of their personal aggrandizement” the statement said.
