Araraume, Uwajumogu shun APC meeting in Okigwe zone

Senator Ifeanyi Aaraume and his loyalists, grouped as Destiny Organisation, were reportedly absent at a meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) convened by the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Acho Ihim, for the party’s faithful in Okigwe zone of Imo State.
Also absent was Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, the only APC Senator in the South East.
Sources said that meeting was dominated by the loyalists of Gov. Rochas Okorocha, fueling fears that the political cold was between the governor and Senator Ararauma was hardly over.
Araraume is said to be nursing the ambition of succeeding Okorocha in 2019, a move the Imo State Governor is believed to be opposed to.
Ihim, sources said,  is Okorocha’s arrow head in Okigwe zone. Uwajumuogu, the present senator who represents in the zone in the senate, is widely speculated to have aligned with Araraume.
The Senator was said to have played a pivotal role in Uwajumuogu’s victory over the PDP candidate, Athan Achonu, in the Okigwe senatorial zone re run polls held last year.
Though Okorocha openly backed Uwajumuogu, many of the latter’s followers complained that Okorocha did not do much expected of an incumbent governor because he was scared that Uwajumogu being the only APC senator from the South East would rise to become a principal officer of the National Assembly, thus will become a leader of the APC in the region.
However, at the Okigwe meeting held mid week, stakeholders mainly Okorocha’s men and loyalists said “ Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha remains the supreme leader of the APC in Imo State and that the party in Okigwe zone has resolved to give him overwhelming support as a supreme champion”.
