Ndigbo are for fair play, equity – PDP stalwart

By Vincent Osuji

A prominent medical practitioner and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Josiah Odunna, has warmly welcomed President  Muhammadu Buhari to the country after his medical vacation but with a message:“Igbo people are only agitating for fair play and equity”.
Reacting to the President’s tumultuous return, and his subsequent broadcast that foreclosed negotiation on Nigeria’s unity,  Dr Odunna stressed that “it is important to realize that it is not in the interest of this government that Igbos are not recognized the way they should be.
We belong to the same federation and I don’t see the sense in creating states and Igboland has no additional state”.
Among the mixed reactions that trailed the president’s return was that of an Anglican Clergyman, Rev. Canon Chukwudum Onwuka, who saw insecurity as priority for the president.
“There are several problems, perhaps the greatest challenge is that of security, not only due to return of Boko Haram and the herdsmen’s unprovoked attack on farmers here and there, but also that of insurgency due to agitations triggered off by the Arewa Youths and the Niger Delta Militancy, plus that of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Rev. Onwuka also urged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) not to play lip service to the issue of restructuring, but to face it with all seriousness.
Nneoma Modu, a civil servant in Owerri, charged the president to work on the economy, describing the situation as terrible.
“I thank God the President is back.  I wish him well.  But, let him hit the road immediately because there is so much hardship in the county.  He should ensure that the dollar goes down because that is the hallmark of the economy”, she said.
Yet, others advised the president to resign immediately if he finds himself unfit to continue.
A resident of Owerri, Okoroji C.C., said; in my opinion, if Mr. President is back and Nigerians are sure he is healthy and can continue as the president, let him continue.  But if in his (Buhari) mind, he knows he cannot continue or that he is unfit let him resign now”.
