Russia 2018 beckons Super Eagles … A dream coming true for captain’s in-laws

The dream of in-laws of John Mikel Obi to watch their son-in-law display his football skill before the Russian spectators in 2018 Fifa World Cup to be hosted by Russia might after all become a reality
The Super Eagles of Nigeria led by John Mikel Obi as captain, are on the verge of qualifying for Russia 2018, after they were forced to a 1-1 draw against the African Champions Cameroon in last week Monday’s second leg World Cup qualifying match played at the Stade Omnisports Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde, Cameroon.
The African Champions, Cameroon were beaten 4-0 in the reverse fixture by the Super Eagles of Nigeria at Uyo, it was expected that the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will come out smoking hot against the Eagles but the Super Eagles contained them.
The Eagles took the lead through Moses Simon who was on target in the 30th minute. After the goal, Nigeria had a handful of great chances to extend their lead but were unable to convert any.
The Cameroon side where continually pressing for an equalizer, which later paid off in the 75th minute when they were awarded a soft penalty. Vincent Aboubakar who came off the bench, converted the spot kick to make the score 1-1
Though both sides attempted to get a late winner, with Cameroon coming the closest, as the game ended in stalemate.
Despite the draw, the Super Eagles are still topping their qualifying group with 10points from four matches with 2 games left to play, Zambia following closely with 7points, Cameroon in third place with 3points and Algeria with 1point.
The destiny of the Super Eagles is now in their hands, if they are to qualify for Russia 2018 because their next match is at home against Zambia which they must win or at least draw.
The battle for qualification is now between Nigeria and Zambia which the Super Eagles will not afford to lose.
