By  Blessing Akujobi

Students of the Abia State University, Uturu, have called on the state government to urgently look into the issue of insecurity in the university that has continued to create tension and panic, especially among the female students who have continued to fall victims in the hands of men of underworld.
Reports have it that a female student of the  university (name withheld) was allegedly raped, robbed and stabbed recently by gun-men whose identities until date are yet undisclosed.
Other cases of rape and robbery are reportedly said to be going on in the institution without serious challenge by security operatives.
Giving an account of the incident, an eye witness who simply identified herself as Mrs. Obiaruko, told Christian Voice that the incident occurred in the early hour of Thursday July 20 2017, when the robbers raped and stabbed her severally, leaving her in her pool of blood.
Obiaruko expressed dissatisfaction over what she termed “lukewarm” attitude of the security men in the institution, insisting that school management should maintain a high level of security network that will guarantee the safety of the students.
She called on the Abia State government to beef up security within and outside the institution and demanded that the perpetrators of the ugly incident must be identified and brought to book.
Speaking also on the issue of insecurity in the country, a Catholic priest, Rev. Father Stanley Iwuala, of St. Mathew Parish Trans-Egbu, in Owerri, blamed insecurity on the leadership. He insisted that the change that was promised Nigerians has ended up as a mess to the entire nation.
He charged the Federal Government not to pay lip services to issues that concerns life.
Also, a senior special adviser to the Imo State government on security matters, High Chief Zeek Martins Nnadozie, opined that the use of whistle-blowing as a major security tool will go a long way to reducing the high rate of insecurity in the country. He called on every Nigerian to be security conscious by reporting any suspicious movement around their vicinities.
