A Community leader and the interim President General of Owerri Communities Assembly, Chief (Dr) Christian Oweaya Anukam (Agbawo-Dike-Izu) has called on youths to shun all forms of election malpractices including thuggery which are likely to ruin their future if they do otherwise.
He made this call at Egbu, near Owerri during the Owerri Zonal political summit held recently under the auspics of Owerri Zone Leaders ahead of 2019 Imo Guber race.
Chief Oweaya warned the people against spreading false rumors about the summit, adding that they should not project a particular candidate for the gubar race of 2019; rather they should ensure that aspirant of all the political parties should emerge from Owerri zone.
He stressed the need for the leaders to project only getable candidates that would be acetate by other zones while charging the leaders also to go home and sensitize their people on the need for them to collect their voter’s cards from INEC office ahead of the 2019 elections.
Agbawodikeizu stated that it is only the voter’s cards that qualifies one to vote at elections.
He equally reminded the people that godfatherism was a thing of the past, urging them not to accept gratification to subdue a credible candidate. “Consider quality and character of candidates before you vote for him”, he said.
He then lauded the efforts of the organizers of the summit, “the criterion for Owerri Reawakening,” and urged them to make it a continuous exercise adding that it would enhance the political, economic and cultural development of the zone in future. He equally aligned his views with that of Lady Anne Dozie who advised politicians in the zone to imbibe the culture of out-of-court settlement of election matters when they arise.
Answering a question from news men, Chief Oweaya stated in his own words, “Today we have gathered to effect a change, we have given our brothers of Okigwe and Orlu chances to rule, it is now the turn of Owerri Zone “they should reciprocate by giving us a chance to produce the governor in 2019.
