… APC youth group rejects imposition of candidates

Following the endorsement of Ugwumba Uche Nwosu by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State ahead of 2019 gubernatorial election, the coalition of the youth arm of All Progressives Congress (APC) have worked out of a meeting allegedly summoned to make them endorsed Nwosu, insisting that there will be no imposition or adoption of candidate from any quarters.
Comrade Ibeawuchi Nwaneri, the state Chairman of Agenda Vanguard on behalf of other youth organizations that formed the coalition stated this on Tuesday shortly after crisis erupted at Imo Youths Centre, New Owerri, where Comrade Kenneth Emelu, Senior Adviser to the Governor on Youth Affairs invited all the youth organizations under the platform of APC to equally endorse Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, Governor Okorocha’s son in-law as the party’s sole Governorship candidate for the 2019 election.
Governor Okorocha last Monday, while the leadership and stakeholder’s of APC from Owerri Municipal Council paid him a courtesy call, told them that he was endorsing Ugwumba Nwosu who is also his Chief of Staff as the best candidate with the best attributes and qualities he envisioned to succeed him.
Nwaneri disclosed that the Governor’s SA on youth affairs told them that the essence of the meeting was for all the youth organizations under APC to equally endorse Ugwumba Uche Nwosu’s gubernatorial aspiration.
According to the spokes person of the factional “dissident” youths coalition “Comrade Kenneth Emelu told us that according to the Governor’s directive, we have to endorse Uche Nwosu’s aspiration. Yes Uche Nwosu is a good man, yes Uche Nwosu is a young man, but we say no to adoption or imposition. The party’s constitution and guideline is supreme.
“Equity, fairness and natural justice demands that we must conduct our primaries under the auspices of free and fair. What happens to the aspiration of other people like Sir Uche Ejiogu, Prince Eze Madumere, Senator Godwin Ararume and Engr. Chuks Ololo, among others, that have declared their interest to govern the state under APC platform?
“We are of the view that each aspirant should test his or her popularity through free and fair party primary, any imposition or adoption will kill the party”, they advised.
Among the leaders of the other youth organizations that supported the press briefing objecting to the imposition or adoption are Comrade Ezeanya Ikenna, Chairman Rochas Youth Alliance, Hon. Mike Nwokeocha of APC Youth Vanguard, Ikeduru chapter, Hon. Ejiaku Declan, the Chairman, Owerri Youth Equity Group, Comrade Miracle Nwosu, the State Co-Ordinator, APC Youth League and Hon. Clinton Aguocha.
It was alleged that N30M was given to the SA youths to be shared among the youth organizations that agreed to endorse the candidature of Ugwumba Uche Nwosu as their crisis continues.
