Low-key Easter in Imo

Christians worldwide are today celebrating the Easter Sunday, which commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Christian Voice checks in Imo State revealed that the usual hustle and bustle that characterized the period in the past has been missing.
Those who spoke to our reporter attributed the situation to the harsh economic conditions prevalent in the county today.
They observed that in Imo State, workers have been receiving irregular amounts of money as salaries while pensions have not been paid for a long time now.
Prices have also skyrocketed due to the collapse of the economic base of the state, following the demolition of major markets in the capital city of Owerri.
Traders affected have been dislodged as a result of the urban renewal programme of the Imo State government.
Easter Sunday is a day set aside to commemorate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, after his crucifixion on the cross of Calvary.
It is the culmination of the Holy Week which began on Palm Sunday, or Passion Sunday, observed last Sunday by Christians worldwide.
Within the Holy week, Christians also commemorated the various events that led to his death on Good Friday.
The Federal Government, as a matter of routine, declared Friday and Monday public holiday to enable the Christians observe the Easter.
