Following the spate of political killings in Imo State, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Dasuki Galadanchi, has assured Imo People that the force will restrategize to protect lives and property in the state.
He gave the assurance while addressing newsmen in Owerri on last week’s killing of the Ideato North Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We will look inwards and use what has happened to improve our performance. The ones we didn’t do well, we correct them”, the commissioner said.
Mr. Galadanchi, who described the incident as unfortunate, also pointed out that the police was yet to determine whether it was a kidnap, assassination or robbery case judging from the way it happened, adding that investigation has commenced on the matter.
According to him, eye witness account revealed that the culprits stopped the party chieftain and tried to force him into their own vehicle which he resisted and was shot in the head.
CP Galadanchi commended Gov. Rochas Okorocha for the N20 million rewards he promised to give anyone with useful information that will lead to the arrest of the culprits adding that the government will fulfill the promise.
The police boss, who has been in Imo State for three months, noted that Imo was located at the centre of South East, sharing birders with all the states in the region.
He explained that he is corroborating with other police commissioners in the region to ensure that crime is reduced to the barest minimum.
CP Galadanchi, who pointed out that he was in charge of community policing in Abuja, also pointed out that community policing was reactive instead of proactive and requires a large sum of money.
He called for the co-operation of all concerned to help fight crime.
The Police Commissioner also assured that the police was poised to ensure a hitch-free 2019 elections in the state, stressing that the force was working with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) based on past information on previous elections.
Imo State has so far witnessed four political killings within the last one month.
