The Cathedral Church of Christ Ezihe in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State was agog last Thursday as the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Isi Mbano, Rt. Rev. Godson Ukanwa, Ph.D, JP and his wife, Mrs. Godiva Ukanwa marked the silver Jubilee anniversary of their wedding. The couple also used the colourful and well attended ceremony to celebrate the 58th birthday anniversary of Mrs. Ukanwa as well as special thanksgiving in honour of their son, Barr. Charis Ukanwa who was recently called to the Bar.
In his sermon during the service, the Archbishop Emeritus of Owerri Province and the Bishop of Orlu Diocese, Most Rev. Benneth Okoro charged Christians to always express gratitude to God for His blessings. He stressed the need for people to take stock of God’s goodness and love in their lives.
He commended the Ukanwa family for their faithful service to God and advised the people to serve God sincerely to receive His blessings.
The Eucharistic service was celebrated by the Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Caleb Maduoma. Mrs. Godiva Ukanwa read the Old Testament lesson from Psalm 24 while the epistle from Colossians 3:18-25 was read by Ven. Loveday Anyanwu.
Highlights of the event were the reaffirmation of marriage vows by the couple, cutting of anniversary cake and exchange of gifts between the couple and their guests.
The occasion also feature an award of honour to the chief celebrant, Bishop Ukanwa by the South East physically challenged persons in recognition of his moral and financial support to them especially in the area of sports sponsorship.
In his vote of thanks, Bishop Ukanwa thanked his guests for their massive turnout at the event and prayed for God’s journey mercies on them.
The occasion attracted Bishops, priests and other dignitaries from far and near.
