Need to check domestic violence stressed

Men who beat their wives at the slightest provocation have been enjoined to refrain from the act and see their wives as their better half.
Ahiazu Mbaise LGA Chairman National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Comrade Anayochukwu Acharike gave the advice while speaking on the dangers of increasing cases of domestic violence in the society.
He advised the men to love, cherish and care for their wives just as the women should be submissive to their husbands and respect them at all times.
Comrade Acharike, who is also the Imo State Vice Chairman NURTW described marriage as a divine union of man and a woman as in Genesis 2:23 – “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”
The NURTWU boss harped on good family moral and cultural values, discipline, humility, chastity, tolerance and mutual understating, urging couples to abide by the fear of God and make him their bedrock.
He said what makes a perfect marriage is the ability to tolerate one another and accommodate each other’s fault, underscoring that to err is human and to forgive is divine.
Comrade Acharike cautioned against indulgence in hard drug and alcohol as well as late night keeps, pointing out that besides infidelity, drug abuse and drunkenness have contributed greatly to destabilization of homes, divorce and separation of couples.
The state NURTW Vice Chairman reemphasized the need for women to seek God’s wisdom in handling challenges confronting them in families, underlining that mothers have many responsibilities inundating them.
He stated that women are divine gift of nature and vessels of honour, enjoining them to shun acts that debase womanhood and be virtuous like Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus Christ.
