You cannot worship God and mammon, says cleric

Children of God have been reminded that there is only but one God and that they cannot serve God and Satan.
A clergyman, Rev. Prof. Boniface Nwigwe of University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, gave the injunction in his sermon marking thanksgiving mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Elekenowasi Obohia in Ahiazu Mbaise LGA.
Preaching on the topic: “God called you for a purpose,” the cleric told children of God not to harden their hearts but submit themselves to the Lord.
He urged them not to reject the divine call but heed to the word and put it to practice.
Fr. Nwigwe outlined that God has called us to work for him just like he called Jeremiah, Paul and other prophets.
The clergyman reminded Christians that at baptism, one is freed from the original sin of Adam and Eve and called to serve God without reservation.
He said Jesus Christ came to bring good news to the poor, liberate the captives, heal the sick, make the lame walk and give sight to the blind, outlining that he is the head of the church and that the church is for the nourishment of the body and soul.
Fr. Nwigwe pointed out that “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit gives them. There are different ways of serving, but the same Lord is served. There are different abilities to perform service, but the same God gives ability to all for their particular service. The Spirit’s presence is shown in some way in each person for the good of all. The Spirit gives one person a message full of wisdom, while to another person the same Spirit gives a message full of knowledge. One and the same Spirit gives faith to one person, while to another person he gives the power to heal. The Spirit gives one person the power to work miracles; to another, the gift of speaking God’s message; and to yet another, the ability to tell the difference between gifts that come from the Spirit and those that do not. To one person he gives the ability to speak in strange tongues, and to another he gives the ability to explain what is said. But it is one and the same Spirit who does all this; as he wishes, he gives a different gift to each person (1 Corinthians 4-11).”
The Don, who harped on love, peace and unity, said one can have all the faith to move mountains but without love, he is nothing, underscoring that: “The one who plants and the one who waters really do not matter. It is God who matters, because he makes the plant grow. There is no difference between the one who plants and the one who waters; God will reward each one according to the work each has done. For we are partners working together for God, and you are God’s field. You are also God’s building. Using the gift that God gave me, I did the work of an expert builder and laid the foundation, and someone else is building on it. But each of you must be careful how you build. For God has already placed Jesus Christ as the one and only foundation, and no other foundation can be laid (1 Corinthian 4-12).
