Tension, anxiety as Nigerians await outcome of guber polls

About 70 candidates contested for the governorship of Imo State on the platform of different political parties in yesterday’s general elections for governors and members of the State House of Assembly.
Anxiety and tension had gripped the Imo electorate as well as in other states, over security prior to the polls that would determine Gov. Rochas Okorocha’s successor.
The tension continued today as the people awaited the results of the keenly contested polls.
The contestants rounded off their campaigns Thursday amidst various rumours of who was disqualified or not by the courts, endorsements of candidates by various groups as well as news of some candidate that stepped down for the other.
Frontline candidates included the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representative, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ifeanyi Araraume of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Senator Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the candidate of Action Alliance (AA) Chief Uche Nwosu, who is the son-in-law of the incumbent, Gov. Rochas Okorocha,
Others were Chief Okey Eze of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Linus Okorie of the Young People’s Party (YPP) and former Governor Chief Ikedi Ohakim of the Accord Party, among others.
