Madumere condoles with victims’ families

Prince Ezeakonobi Madumere, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Imo State, has sent a condolence message to the families of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident that occurred shortly after a traditional wedding in Umuomumu Mbieri, Mbaitoli local government area of Imo State.
While commending the ongoing efforts by medical practitioners to stabilise other affected victims, he described the incident as unfortunate and a big blow not just to Ndi Mbieri but also to the state in general.
He, therefore, called for immediate investigation to ascertain the remote cause of the incident.
The immediate past Deputy Governor, who was unavoidably out of the state, prayed God to grant the affected families the fortitude to bear the loss and for the repose of the souls of the departed.
Twenty persons were feared dead in the incident suspected to be food poisoning.
Another report, however, claimed the deaths may have emanated from generator fumes.
Those who died were mainly guests who attended a traditional wedding at Umuobajiaku, Umuomumu Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
The Imo State Police Public Pelations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident said that some others have been rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment.
He said that the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Police Command, Rabiu Ladodo, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident with a view to unraveling the mystery behind the tragedy.
